Every person, from the extensive range of disciplines, plays an important role in helping the organisation realise its vision to become a world leading zoo-based conservation organisation. Werribee Open Range Zoo has an exciting career opportunity as Coordinator to support the Life Sciences Manager of Savannah.

The Team covers an extensive area of the Zoo and includes species such as White Rhino, Giraffe, Bison, Przewalski's Horse, Hippo, Zebra, Eland and Oryx to name but a few. We are also part of major upgrade developments to WORZ in coming years.

The Coordinator is responsible and accountable for supervising the day-to-day running of the Team under the guidance of the Life Sciences Manager. They will work together to deliver effective and efficient animal husbandry whilst shaping the culture of the team around the Zoos Victoria Vision and Values. The position will also require the incumbent to perform keeping duties.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum qualification of Certificate III or equivalent in Captive Animals.
  • Significant experience as a trade keeper and in coordinating staff and rounds.
  • Experience in similar roles will be highly regarded. Including but not limited to animal introductions, weaning, translocations and breeding recommendations.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills.

  • Strong planning and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop a high performing team, focussing on a strong culture of compassion, trust, excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Proven interpersonal skills that develops and maintains harmonious and participative staff relationships at a team and individual level
  • Knowledge of and a commitment to further the Standard Round Process on the Team would be advantageous.
  • Willingness to assist and facilitate project, infrastructural and upgrade work to be undertaken on the team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
